Several things occur to me about the record* fuel price rises:

1) What with England being in the European cup (this has something to do with football / soccer) lots of people seem to be attaching England flags to their cars. This will add wind resistance thus wasting our valuable fuel.

2) The people protesting the fuel rises are driving trucks slowly down roads to protest. These are unnecessary journeys which further waste fuel.

3) The government only adds tax, supposedly, to reduce use of this resource. But when the protesters are saying the fuel prices are so high we won't be able to make these journeys the government aren't saying "great the tax is working, that's the point" they are saying, "actually you're right we will lower it and remember that in the election that's coming up".

And 4) Petrol companies must be really worried about prices going up. All petrol stations have three digits on their signs so they can display 79.2p. They haven't quite worked out what they'll do if the price goes over a pound. But I'm guessing it won't be pretty for the consumer. Don't be surprised if prices suddenly have to jump up to whole pennies but never seem to drop back down so quickly.

* This is not an actual record. It's nominally high not actually high.
