What with an election about to happen here in the UK lots of people are talking about who to vote for. In fact there have been lots of discussions that I've heard which involve phrases like "well you have to vote for somebody" and the justification for this is that "if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain".

Now that viewpoint tallies with my viewpoint, or rather my viewpoint until recently. The main problem is that what if your complaint is that there is nobody to vote for. That is a really important statement and the only option you have is either vote for a fringe person who you don't want to win either, or not vote and get lumped in with the people who really don't care. In the end choosing to not vote should be considered separately from not wanting to vote.

There is a simple solution to this which is being allowed to vote for nobody, this would be a powerful protest tool but the problem is that there is no way to get that on the ballot. The only people who can put it on the ballot are the people for whom the current system is working fine.

So what's the answer? Well I think I'm going to run as the non-vote party. My only policy is that there should be a complete overhaul of elections. I have a new election system that I will explain tomorrow. But that's it. I will call a vote on a change of election policy. See it through the house on the first day of power and then I shall resign my office.

So how would you vote for me? By not voting. If I was to run for this then one of two things would happen either more people would vote to keep me out, or people would not vote to force a change. Either way I think politics wins. Obviously there's no point trying to arrange this for the election next week, it's more a plan for the next general election.

What are my chances of success? Well in reality nil because you can't win if nobody votes for you obviously. But if it were allowed what would have happened in the last General Election?

I would have won with 41% of eligible voters to labour's 25%. A huge landslide. Tomorrow the method in which elections should work.
